Number 4 on the Animal Humane Society's list of seven suggestions to memorialise a deceased pet is to create a customised piece of art. And that is exactly what we do at the Essential Garden with our Remember Me pet memorials. Combining a beloved pet's ashes into a unique handcrafted cement sculpture ensures your memories will last forever. The finished sculpture is hardy, weatherproof and most importantly, transportable - if you move house, you can take the sculpture with you - it's difficult to do when you have scattered the ashes on their favourite piece of grass or planted a tree over the ashes.
The sculpture also comes with a handcrafted ceramic name tag, glazed and fired to ensure it lasts as long as the sculpture. You don't have to use all your pet's ashes if you perfer to keep some to scatter or share with others, what you send us will be incorporated into your sculpture. The price of $120 includes materials, sculpting, packaging and delivery. For more information see www.essentialgarden.co.nz

A society grows great when old men plant trees under whose shade they know they will never sit.6/10/2022 Such a great quote and one I am reminded of every time we visit Cornwall Park in Hastings. Walking under the towering Redwoods planted by visionaries over 100 years ago, I'm taken back to the day they were planted and try to imagine the scene. A vastly different society then, compared to today! Downton Abbey versus The Matrix!
We planted some Redwoods over 20 years ago here in what was, at the time, a paddock. It's hard to think of these tiny little seedlings, looking like a skinny stick with some leaves, having the potential to live for 1,000 years and reaching 100 metres into the air. We've planted thousands of trees, shrubs, plants, palms, herbs over the 20 plus years we have been here and it leaves me with two distinct emotions. The elation of seeing one of our seedlings, now a 10 metre Eucalyptus, swaying in a howling southerly, steadfast. And then there's the stark realisation that it's not only the trees that have aged since they went in. I don't recognise the face staring at me in the mirror! I doubt society will ever grow great, regardless of how many trees are planted by old men but then, that's the beauty of humanity - who cares? Do it anyway. The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit |
